The Polaris Egyptian Youth Competition is the first astronomy and astrophysics competition of its kind in Egypt. It is specifically designed for young amateur astronomers aged 15 to 18.
As part of the competition, there is a training course that covers the basics of astronomy and astrophysics. This course is conducted by a group of accomplished Egyptian youth who have excelled in the field, including IAAC gold medalists, finalists of NASA Space Apps, winners of the Egyptian Space Design Competition, and more.
The competition consists of several rounds. The first round is called the White Stars Round, which lasts for 30 days. Participants must complete as many of the 5 astronomy and astrophysics problems as possible to earn points and qualify for the next round.
The Blue-White Stars Round follows the White Stars Round and lasts for 7 days. It includes 10 advanced astronomy and astrophysics problems. Participants need to earn at least 40 points to advance to the finals.
The Blue Stars Round is a single-day round featuring 5 complex advanced astronomy and astrophysics problems. There is no specific points requirement for this round; participants need to solve the problems to the best of their abilities.
Some problems may require research skills and a quick problem-solving ability. Participants should be prepared to demonstrate their knowledge, critical thinking, and speed in finding solutions.
The training course is delivered by accomplished individuals who have achieved notable success in the field of astronomy and astrophysics. They include IAAC gold medalists, finalists of NASA Space Apps, winners of the Egyptian Space Design Competition, and IAAC's best ambassadors.
